About Department

The Labour Department plays a crucial role in sustaining the rapid industrial and economic growth of the State. Sound and responsible labour behaviour coupled with progressive management practices are pre-requisites for good industrial relations.

The department has been striving to achieve this important task through the legal frame work of the Industrial Disputes Act to conciliate and settle industrial disputes for creating a congenial atmosphere.

The department is effectively enforcing various Labour Legislations for protecting the interests of the workers engaged in organised and unorganised sectors. It has been implementing various Acts to maintain good industrial relations and promote welfare of workers.

Structure of Labour Department

These officers are responsible for the Enforcement of various non-technical Labour legislation in respect of all establishments other than Factories and Plantations. In their work, the Inspectors of Labour are assisted by the Deputy Inspectors of Labour, Assistant Inspectors of Labour and Stamping Inspectors ( for Weights and Measures). These officers are also notified as Deputy Controller of Weights and Measures under the Standards of Weights and Measures (Enforcement) Act, 1985.

ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER OF LABOUR(KARUR DISTRICT)

  • Inspecting Authority for Shops and other Establishments (Except Factories registered under Factories Act) under Various Labour Laws.
  • Inspecting Authority under Legal Metrology and Packaged Commodity Rules.
  • Authority under Conferment of Permanent Status To Workmen Act.
  • Registrar of Contractors under Contract Labour Act and Inter-State Migrant Workers Act.
  • Administrative Authority over Enforcement Officers of Karur District.

DEPUTY INSPECTOR OF LABOUR

  • Inspecting under various Labour Laws Over Shops and Establishments except Factories.
  • Inspecting Authority under Legal Metrology Act.
  • Stamping Authority for Fuel Pumps (Petrol, Diesel, LPG) and Weigh Bridges.

ASSISTANT INSPECTORS OF LABOUR (CIRCLE-I,II & MANAPPARAI)

  • Inspecting under various Labour Laws Over Shops and Establishments except Factories.
  • Inspecting under Legal Metrology Act and Packaged Commodity Rules.

STAMPING INSPECTOR.

  • Stamping of Weights and Measures Under Legal Metrology Act.
